11. Mr. Muchadeyi Ashton Masunda
Muchadeyi Ashton Masunda was born in Bulawayo on 28th January, 1952.
He went to Mzilikazi High School in Bulawayo and Fletcher High School in Gweru. He obtained a Bachelor of Law (Honours) Degree from the University of Zimbabwe in December, 1973. His career spans 2 years in local government administration with the City of Bulawayo; 2 years as an Accounting Assistant in the Mining Division of Anglo American Corporation in Harare; 12 years as a practising attorney with Gill, Godlonton & Gerrans; 6½ years as Managing Director of Duly's; 4 years as the Founding Executive Director of the Commercial Arbitration Centre in Harare and almost three years as the Chief Executive of Associated Newspapers of Zimbabwe (Private) Limited, the publishers of The Daily News and The Daily News on Sunday. He is a Fellow and Accredited Tutor of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators [UK]. He serves on the international panel of arbitrators for the Court of Arbitration for Sport. During the last 25 years he has served as chairman and/or director of a number of corporate, professional, educational, charitable and sporting organisations in Zimbabwe. He has presented papers on corporate governance and arbitration in Botswana, Cameroon, China, Cyprus, France, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Namibia, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tunisia, the U.K., the U.S.A., Zambia and Zimbabwe. He is the Chairman of Atlas Copco Zimbabwe; National Employment Council for the Catering Industry; Catering Industry Pension Fund; Coates Brothers Zimbabwe (a member of the SunChemical Group); Commercial Arbitration Centre in Harare; Duly Holdings; HRG Rennies Travel Zimbabwe; John Sisk & Son Africa Group; Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe; Old Mutual Zimbabwe; Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Sugar Association. He is the Deputy Chairman of Zimplats Holdings Limited, which is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. He is also a director of Bindura Nickel Corporation. He is also a trustee of the Legal Resources Foundation and a co-patron of St. John’s Educational Trust. On 1st July, 2008 he was elected Mayor of Harare. In January 2010 he was appointed a member of the United Nations Advisory Council on Local Authorities. A keen sportsman, he used to play first league tennis, table tennis and squash. He also plays golf and is a Past President of the Zimbabwe Golf Association. |
